The Italian Navy OPV, also known as PPX, is a new Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) intended to provide surveillance, maritime surveillance, merchant traffic control, protection of lines of communication and the exclusive economic zone. Besides, the OPVs will provide protection against threats from marine pollution, such as spills and toxic liquids. These vessels feature a full displacement of 2,300 tons, have a length of 95 meters carrying a crew of 97 members. The Italian Ministry of Defense awarded a 925 million contract to Orizzonti Sistemi Navali (OSN), a joint venture between Fincantieri and Leonardo, on July 31, 2023. The contract covers the construction of three vessels with options for another three.

The Italian Navy ordered a fourth vessel in August 2024.
